2nd Golden Age Gym Festival 2010: information meeting in Portimao/POR
20 representatives from 12 member federations have participated in an information meeting at the venue, on the same dates as the UEG Golden Age 2010. Visiting the foreseen sites and hotels was the highlight of this meeting.
The Information Bulletin nr 1 has been sent to the national federations (NF) already at mid-Mai 2009. Some twenty delegates of the NF had the possibility, in mid-October, to attend an information meeting at the venue including the visit of the sites and the planned hotels.
Portimao
The city and sea resort of Portimao (60 km from Faro and its airport) offer ideal conditions for the 2nd Golden Age Gym Festival of UEG and we must underline the exemplary interest and commitment of the local authorities. The city of Portimao and the Portuguese Federation of gymnastics collaborate successfully since more than 20 years and numerous gymnastics events were organized there.
Several scenes for presentations will be installed in the old town and on certain interesting touristic places. The city disposes of several outdoor and covered sports installations in which the different workshops will take place. The official opening ceremony and the gala will be organised in the magnificent Arena, which receives each year the international RG Tournament/World Cup FIG.
Accommodation
Various categories of hotels will be proposed, the majority of the rooms being equipped as apartment; this means that it will be possible to cook there.
The proposed prices (see official site of the GAGF) are valid for 6 overnight stays and include the 85-€ amount for the festival card as well as the transfer from the airport of Faro to Portimao.
Most of the hotels reserved for the manifestation are situated at the edge of the very beautiful beach. The offered conditions are very advantageous and allow those who wish it, to add one week of favourable holidays.
Meals
Most of the hotels propose half or full board. The LOC offers a novelty: it negotiated with a certain number of restaurant owners of the city special conditions for the participants of the GAGF. It will be possible to order a menu "Golden Age", and a 10 % discount will be in principle granted for the orders "à la carte".
During a meeting with the LOC, the technical committee Gymnastics for All was able to realize the excellent progress of the preparations. The studies of the LOC concerning the main domains are already very advanced. The suggestions made by the representatives of the NF were registered with a great interest and they will be taken into account for the further planning.

2nd Golden Age Gym Festival 2010 (50+) in Portimão /POR
After the test edition in 2005 and the 1st Golden Age Gym Festival 2008 in Maspalomas / Canaries / ESP, the 2nd GAGF will take place in the Algarve in Portugal, more specifically in Portimão.
Portimão is a city and municipality of Portugal, located in the district of Faro in the Algarve. Its nearest airport is Faro. The city has about 45’000 inhabitants. In addition to its reputation of popular tourist destination, Portimão is a sports city including a circuit where some of the winter tests in Formula 1 are made and a Golf course. It also hosts an annual World Cup event of the A cat. in rhythmic gymnastics organised by the FIG. The UEG has entrusted the organization of the 2nd Golden Age Gym Festival (GAGF 50 +) to the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation which has selected the city of Portimão.

2nd UEG Golden Age Gym Festival 2010 –
first meetings in Portimao / POR.
Detlef Mann and Alberto Claudino, respectively president and member of the UEG Gymnastics for All Technical Committee (GfA TC) have held, from February 12th to 14th, 2009 a meeting in Portimao including a visit of the venue in view of the 2nd UEG Golden Age Gym Festival (GAGF).
Detlef Mann, president of the GfA TC and Alberto Claudino, member in charge of the 2nd GAGF, met the representatives of the Portuguese Federation, the local organizing committee and the delegates of the city of Portimao. A visit of the venue which will host the 2nd UEG Golden Age Gym Festival (50 +) in October 2010 has provided valuable information and showed that Portimao offers almost ideal conditions for this Festival of the Golden Age (50 +).
The delegates of the national federations will have the opportunity to discover the venue during the Information Meeting to be held in Portimao on October 10th and 11th, 2009.
Information Bulletin no. 1 will be sent out shortly. In addition, the official website goldenage2010.webnode.com will soon be accessible.
The old city as well as the modern and more touristy part of the city offer beautiful places for on scene productions and the opening ceremony. A room for up to 5000 spectators (the same one that hosts the annual A tournament of the World Cup RG) provides an absolutely great framework for the Gala and the closing ceremony. The "workshops" will be held in a sports centre, currently under renovation, located in the centre.
The delegates of the UEG and the OC were then received by the Mayor of the city of Portimao, Mr. Manuel da Luz. He underlined the importance for his town to receive an event of the size of the UEG Golden Age Gym Festival. Meanwhile, the UEG delegates announced that they expect a clear increase of the participation number and that more than 3000 participants can be expected.
The preparatory work can begin
The organizing committee, led by Paulo Pires (Secretary General of the Portuguese Federation) has taken all measures to ensure that the work starts as well in Portimao as within the federation. The UEG delegates observed that highly competent and experienced persons are involved and that the city shows a big commitment. The sports departure of the city has a big experience in organizing international events in classical sports and wishes to distinguish itself more as a city of sport.

Sustainable development
It is customary for quite some time, for this kind of mass sport events, to taking into account the aspect of sustainable development. The Gymnaestrada 2007 in Dornbirn / AUT gave a good example in this regard. Some measures are already recommended by the organizers of the Golden Age 2010 notably in their work with and for seniors, an increasingly important group because of the demographics evolution. The city itself will conduct studies to learn from this great event in view of a "return on investment." In addition, Portugal hopes to stand out more in Europe, conscious of being somewhat isolated.
